Case Study - Bay Audiology

Strata Networks are proud to be the IT Support Company for Bay Audiology’s clinics across NZ. Bay Audiology is one of New Zealand’s leading providers of Audiology services and have 70 retail clinics from KeriKeri to Invercargill. 

In January 2010 Bay Audiology were looking to bring their IT systems in house. For a number of years the business’ IT systems were provided by an external Application Service Provider. The management team at Bay Audiology approached Strata Networks with the complex issue of migrating their core business applications and IT environment back in house.This involved 3 major work programs to be run in parallel to achieve a compressed project timeframe of 4 months.

1. A Nationwide WAN.

A new nationwide Wide Area Network was purpose built for Bay Audiology’s required network services which include clinic connectivity for line of business applications and VoIP telephony services.

2. Virtualised Server Intrastructure

A new purpose built virtualised server infrastructure was designed and implemented with full site DR failover utilising Data Domain technology.

3. Clinic Migration

The shift to bring all IT systems back in house involved a massive clinic migration process. The logistics exercise involved executing a single cutover of 70 clinics from Keri Keri to Invercargill order to avoid any impact to the business operation. 

Strata Networks was engaged by Bay Audiology complete this project after we demonstrated significant expertise and innovation to clearly articulate and layout a concise technical roadmap of how to accomplish this undertaking. Many people said it couldn’t be done due to the many infrastructure and network complexities that existed along with a network of clinics that are located across the breadth of NZ. 

Strata Networks provided consulting and design expertise to propose an infrastructure solution best suited to Bay Audiology’s needs. A virtual infrastructure solution was developed which would provide a cost effective, scalable, I.T infrastructure which achieved a payback period of only 9 months.

Strata Networks delivered a 75% saving on the existing network and telecommunication costs. They also have delivered a 30% saving on-going monthly operational management of the IT environment. 

Strata Networks successfully delivered the project to Bay Audiology on time and on budget. Bay Audiology have realised a significant reduction in IT support issues, increased service levels to the nationwide business, while achieving massive ongoing monthly cost savings for their network, telephony, server, and outsourcing services. This was due to the innovative way Strata Networks approached the design and implementation of the project while maintaining a strong focus on ROI and Total Cost of Ownership.

The existing WAN services from Bay Audiology’s existing telecommunications provider did not add any value to the Bay Business and was utilising technology which was expensive and outdated. Strata Networks took the opportunity to approach the implementation of a Wide Area Network in a new and innovative way which would provide huge cost savings to the business and deliver better network service.
